Hostel Rules and Regulations

1. Students may move into the hostel one week before the start of courses enrolled and move out within one week after the last day of final examinations, or as stated in the hostel contract. Should an extension be required a written request with valid reason(s) should be submitted to the SSD office for approval at least three weeks before the end of the semester.

2. Hostel keys must be returned by the deadline or housing deposit shall be withheld or forfeited.

3. Residents are strictly prohibited from admitting strangers or persons of the opposite sex into their respective rooms. Behaviors that may embarrass or cause inconvenience to other housemates are also not allowed. No overnight guests (including family members) are allowed. This is to prevent any loss of personal belongings or untoward happenings. However, guests are allowed into the visitors’ hall from 9am to10pm daily.

4. Smoking, consumption of alcohol or drugs are strictly prohibited.

5. Only tenants (not visitors) are allowed to use the hostel facilities, i.e. refrigerator, TV, kitchen, washing machine, etc.

6. Excessive noise that may disturb others is not allowed after 10pm.

7. Residents are responsible for safeguarding facilities, household fittings and equipment. Any household items damaged intentionally or due to negligence are to be reimbursed by the resident(s), according to the market rate of the items.

8. Residents are to ensure that their rooms and common area are kept clean. All entrances/ exits are to be kept locked at all times.

9. The SSD personnel will conduct periodic inspection of the premises to ensure that all rules and regulations are observed. Breaking of any rules and regulations will be recorded and a fine will be imposed. All fines must be settled in cash before the final examinations for the semester. Failing to do so may cause the resident to be barred from taking the final examinations. A complete copy of rules and regulations will be given upon application or can be obtained anytime from the SSD.

10. In the case of serious misconduct on the part of the resident, the SSD reserved the right to terminate his/ her tenancy without any refund. Disciplinary action will also be taken.

11. All residents are expected to be in the hostels by 12 midnight. Residents wishing to stay past midnight must apply for leave pass from SSD or the hostel wardens (subject to approval).

12. All complaints pertaining to maintenance should be made to the SSD Housing Executive.
