A DD Day for design enthusiasts!

24 secondary school students had a fun and rewarding day at KDU Penang campus for participating in the college's first-ever Design Discovery Day on 14 December 2013.

Organised by the KDU Centre of Design Excellence (CODE), the event themed "Superhuman" is a one day camp to expose students aged 13-17 to the realm of arts and design as well as to introduce CODE, its lecturers and facilities to potential students. Besides, it is also an opportunity for the arts and designs enthusiasts to experience and express their ideas and creativity.

In all, students from 14 different schools participated in the event namely Penang Free School, SMK Bagan Jaya, SMK Hua LIan Taiping, Convent Light Street, SMK Hamid Khan, St. Xavier Institute, SMK Kampung Selamat, SMK Berapit, Methodist Girls School, SMJK Heng Ee, SMJK Phor Tay, Convent Green Lane, Convent Dato Keramat and SMJK Chung Ling.

Participants seemed shy and quiet in the beginning but soon became good friends with one another once they were divided into groups for activities. Pai Wen Shin who is currently a Form 5 student from SMK Bagan Jaya expressed that it was an enjoyable event for her as she got to meet new friends with the same interests.

As for the results, the Storm Shadow team with members Wong Yiat Hui, Chooi Yik Beng, Tan Ming, Lim Wei Zhen and Lim Yen Xin emerged Champions for the event and walk away with RM10,000 worth of scholarship for CODE programmes. 2nd prize went to Revolution team which consists of Lim Wen Yi, Shannon Choong Tong Tong, Pai Wen Shin, Lim Zhe Shean and Khoo Jia Kie who received RM5,000 worth of scholarships each. Tan Huei Cing, Goy Khai Sze, Neoh Chin Sim and Muthuraman were the consolation prize winners for the event.

The fun filled event was a success and Mr Fahmi, Academic Head for CODE hinted that there will be more exciting events line-up in the future to inspire the young, creative and talented bunch of Penang in field of design.
