Does Gold Quality Undergraduate Education exist in Malaysia?

Students in Malaysia now have access to a gold standard degree experience through the dual award collaboration between the 6-star MyQuest KDU Penang and the University of Lincoln UK. The University of Lincoln’s Gold award – the highest standard possible - in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) places it in the top 20% tier of UK higher education providers, and the underlying data submitted to the UK government TEF auditors suggests it actually places in the top 10%. Officially launched yesterday, this is a highly engaged collaboration where Malaysian students receive a genuine UK gold level experience- including the possibility of study abroad in the UK. A suite of dual award programmes is offered in the areas of Accountancy, Business Management, Computer Science, Games Programming, Information Systems, Network Technology, Media Production, Communication and Public Relations. Graduates receive a degree award and transcript from each institution giving their degree global recognition.

What is certain is that the partnership between these two outstanding institutions delivers innovative, adaptive and enterprising graduates for the empowered workplace. In their statement of findings on the University of Lincoln, the TEF Panel said evidence showed: "students from all backgrounds… achieve outstanding outcomes". Indeed on the graduate employability front, both the University of Lincoln and KDU Penang University College have a gold standard employability record, achieving an above national average of 95% of graduates in work or further study within 6 months of graduation.

When benchmarking this exacting partnership against a selection of other dual award collaborations, the University of Lincoln shines with not only gold tier TEF status but also high ratings in the Complete University Guide’s latest ratings across all their dual award subject areas (refer table below). This is particularly the case in the areas of Media Production and Public Relations where the University of Lincoln is placed in the top third of all British universities.

Both the University of Lincoln, UK and KDU Penang University College are recognized as setting a blueprint for excellence in teaching and learning through their pioneering approach to working with industry. With an industry-focused curriculum, dual award students at KDU Penang are challenged to imagine and execute solutions to tomorrow’s problems, extending their creative thinking capabilities to become the empowered graduates who are so highly sought by employers.  Students also have the opportunity to start their own businesses while studying through KDU Penang’s student enterprise initiatives. This enables KDU Penang University College to deliver on its promise to produce industry-ready graduates ready to ‘hit the ground running’.
