Empowering session for Engineering students with Dr. Steven Voldman

Dr. Voldman now uses his skills and network to encourage engineers to study in-depth on Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) field.
It was a rare opportunity for KDU's Engineering undergraduate students as they attended a talk by reknowned inventor and consultant Dr. Steven Voldman on 21 May 2012. The exclusive TechTalk@Uni series was brought by Dream Catcher Computing Sdn Bhd to KDU with the aim of exposing students and academia to the latest knowledge and trends in technologies.

Although a man credited with over 200 issued US Patents under his belt, Dr.Voldman shares humbly with the crowd that the road to success may not be easy but rather hard work and dedication is the key towards achieving good progress. This sharing session proved invaluable for the students as besides learning the present day problems in semi conductor components and systems, students also learn about solutions needed to deliver electrostatic discharge (ESD), electrical overstress (EOS), latchup, electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).

Most inventors would testify that it's a long hard struggle full of sacrifice and moments of despair but for Dr. Voldman, he would rather look at the bright side of things through innovation in the area of integration of ESD protection. Being author of six books, he encouraged more engineers to expand their horizon and be part of solution to these issues which we will need to face, hence discussions like this will prompt them to study in-depth theory on failure mechanisms and models and find solutions for the semiconductor industry. Speaking through experience, Dr. Voldman now uses his skills and network form the past to educate and encourage engineers to study the field.

It is with collaboration such as this, KDU continues to inspire students by promoting professional linkages between students and industry leaders who are international experts enabling them to expand their networks, share thoughts and novel ideas.
