It was a day of unbridled joy for Cheah Chung Yin, an A-Level student at KDU Penang who probably wrote a new chapter in the World's GCE A-Level Examination's storied history having scored 8A's in the recent examination.
Chung Yin who is an ex-SMJK Chung Ling Butterworth student, scored distinctions for his Accounting, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Economics, Further Mathematics, Mathematics, Physics papers, as well as A stars in two of them. Chung Yin plans to further his studies with a prestigious university in Europe or Australia. Thanking his KDU lecturers for their guidance, he added, "I am over the moon with my results. A lot people advised me against taking so many papers for the A-Level Examination as it is one of the toughest in the world but I always knew what I wanted to do. I would like to thank everyone who supported me towards attaining these unbelievable results, especially my wonderful KDU lecturers for their total support and guidance."
Chung Yin's first-of-a-kind excellent results came as a surprise to even his KDU lecturers as they have never seen an academic feat of this nature in their many of years of having taught GCE A-Level Pre University students. "Chung Yin's drive to perform the extraordinary has always been noted given the strong results he has produced in his previous exams. However, an achievement of this nature ranks even beyond the realms of believability itself. We are confident that his achievement must surely stand as some sort of record in the long history of the World GCE A-Level Examinations. He thoroughly deserves it for his effort." said Mr. Ewen Yeoh who is the Academic Department Head for KDU's Centre for Pre-University Studies.
There was much to celebrate as 4 other students - Chua Ping Chan, Ho Shou Hao, Law Junhui and Lee Zhi Sin - scored 4 As in the GCE A- Level Examination. Dr. Chong Beng Keok, the CEO & Principal of KDU College Penang, who was clearly elated by the success of the students commented, "We have always been known for our students' fantastic A-Levels results but this year's achievement is extra special considering that we have managed to further increase our collective average percentage of A's for all subjects in the recent examination. Overall, more than 40% of our A-Level students scored 3 A's and above. I would like to commend the students' for their positive and hard work as well as our KDU lecturers for their determination to maintain our excellent track record. This is despite having a bigger batch of students to mentor this time due to the public's good response towards our Pre-University program for the past 2 years."
