KDU Penang Engineering Students Make Presence Known in Korea

BEng (Hons) E&E Engineering student, Yeap Soon Kent, in the Global Hackathon in Jeju Island, Korea from 21 to 23 October. It is called Oh! MY Jeju Hackathon which is organized by J-Space, a co-working space and startup incubator in Jeju Island. The theme of this hackathon is "Making Jeju a better place" and they aim to solve international tourist related issues which are: lack of tourist information, lack of transportation methods and communication issue. There are 80 participants that took part in this Hackathon; i.e. 40 local Koreans, and 40 international participants from Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and Hong Kong. He participated the hackathon as a product manager - decide vision of the product, define the scope of the minimum viable product (MVP) and pitch the team’s idea during the final pitch. The team consists of 5 members, 2 from Vietnam and 2 from Korea and Soon Kent. Their idea is named Jeju-gether (Combination of Jeju & Together), a platform that connects both advanced traveller or locals with fellow traveler who wish to travel in Jeju Island. The locals can create or even sell their tour itinerary, while travellers will browse for their interested itinerary and get connected to the locals. So, they can travel together. Yeap Soon Kent and his teammates managed to win 2 awards - Excellence Award and Most Popular Award
