The teams, which consisted of students from the Degree in Business Management and one student from Degree in Engineering, received RM5,000 and RM3,000 in prize money respectively.

Organised by Talent Corp and Malaysia Digital Economy Corp (MDec), the competition saw participation from 6 private higher education institutions including Universiti Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, SEGI College, INTI and UPSI.

Dr. Johnson Ng, Acting Department Head of the School of Business said, “This success is a reflection of the hard work of our talented students. Much thanks also go to their mentors who took time to guide them in their presentation skills and question and answer (Q&A) skills”.

The annual competition, aimed at encouraging business students to come up with the best possible innovative business ideas to solve real-life business problems, consisted of a “Bootcamp” where the participants partnered with multinational corporations (MNCs) such as HIS, Jabil, and AMD in improving human resource management operations, improve unmatched invoices from packaging suppliers and to reap the benefits from the evolution of Global Business Services respectively. The objective of this GBS Challenge was to develop a new Global Business Services model that was flexible and consistent for a diverse set of global customers and offices to maximise the operational benefits.

Dr. Brian Imrie, KDU Penang’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor said, “To take out the two top places from a formidable line of contestants is impressive. This is an applied challenge where students tackle real business problems for client firms. This is truly a demonstration of how KDU Penang UC delivers its promise in offering real-world opportunities for real-world learning to students and we are proud to have them achieve such a feat. The success of our students is also a credit to the lecturing team, mentors and support team who joined them in Kuala Lumpur for the challenge.”

KDU Penang University College’s students from the School of Business won the champion title at the Global Business Services Challenge 2016.
