KDU Penang University College Organises A Blood Donation Drive

George Town, 13 February 2018 – Our blood can save lives. Blood donation is a big contribution to the society and helps those who need blood to live. KDU Penang University College (KDU Penang) always takes one step forward in contributing to the society. The Student Service Department (SSD) of KDU Penang with Penang General Hospital organised a blood donation drive on the campus on 8 February 2018. The main initiative of this drive is to create the awareness among the students and staff about the importance  of giving blood, which can save someone’s life.

Students and staff of KDU Penang registered for blood donation and went through a series of medical checkups before donating. All donors were given refreshments and proper guidelines. Ms Lian Li Huang, Manager of Administration, KDU Penang, who is a regular blood donor, encouraged students and the public to donate their blood and serve the people’s needs. Most of the students and staff showed support for this healthy programme and came forward to donate.

“Blood donation is the easiest way to save someone’s life and our department organises blood donation drives four times a year,” said Ms Joey Phuah Soo Yee, Manager of SSD, KDU Penang. Blood donation also triggers a regenerating mechanism for donors. Donors can enjoy two benefits, saving someone’s life and refreshing their bodies.

Ms Joey Phuah Soo Yee stressed that students must give blood as it is proven to reduce the amount of iron in their bodies, reducing the risks of health complications. Regular blood donors are found to be 33% less likely to have heart diseases and 88% less likely to have a heart attack.
