George Town, 5th November – KDU Penang University College has held their 2017 Graduation Ceremony this Sunday at Hotel Equatorial, celebrating the academic success of 844 graduates. Some of which began their journey with KDU Penang as Certificate-level students, but have now finished their Degree programmes with First Class Honours.

This year, instead of going with a single valedictorian, there were instead two sharing the coveted title: Yeap Soon Kent, from the Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Electrical & Electronic Engineering in partnership with the University of Northumbria, Newcastle, as well as Teng Hoi Chi, from the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) International Hotel & Tourism Management in partnership with International Management Institute, Switzerland.

Yeap has multiple achievements under his belt, placing in the Top 10 Finalists for various competitions, and is largely active in many extracurricular activities. He is currently working with Intel, and states the practical experience from his course has prepared him greatly for his working life. He also mentions he is currently working with 6 of his classmates at Intel, and is grateful for the opportunity to work alongside close friends.

Teng, who is currently works at an events management company in Macau, and is thankful for the wide range of knowledge she has gained from her course. She also states that she gained her current job through connections she has made during her industry placement, and has recently taken part in organizing the Macau International Film Festival. Teng was also highly active in school events, and is currently a Schwarzman Scholar, pursuing her Masters degree.

Present at the ceremony were Paramount Education Chief Executive Officer, Datin Teh Geok Lian; Group Chief Executive Officer & Executive Director, Jeffrey Chew Sun Teong; KDU Penang University College Vice Chancellor, Dr Chong Beng Keok; KDU Penang University College Deputy Vice Chancellor, Associate Professor Dr Brian Imrie; Director of Operations, Human Resources, & Partner Schools of IMI International Management Institute, Switzerland, Professor Gavin R R Caldwell; and Deputy Vice Chancellor of Keele University, UK, Professor Mark Ormerod. KDU Penang University College is also currently partnered with University of Lincoln, UK (recently awarded Gold for teaching excellence) and offering Dual Award Degrees for multiple programmes.
