|George Town, 13 February 2018 – Students and campus staff did a good turn as the Year of the Dog began by bringing festive joy to the elderly at a nursing home. About 30 of them recently spent several hours hanging up Chinese New Year decorations at Sunshine Home in Jalan Perak.|
They added a merry mood in the air and even prepared homemade gifts for the home’s 21 residents, who were visibly delighted by their youthful enthusiasm. The gifts were made by upcycling waste into decorative trinkets.
|But no CNY deed is complete without ang pow, and that they did.|
“The students went on a donation drive and collected RM300 from the campus staff. They gave each resident a RM10 angpow. It’s warming to see the look of achievement on the students’ faces,” said KDU Penang University College’s Student Service Department Manager Joey Phuah Soo Yee.
Phuah said it was the campus tradition to organize such events yearly to foster in the students a sense of duty to help the poor, elderly and physically challenged.
