Students bring cheer to underprivileged, old folks

KDU students with collaboration from HOPE Worldwide Penang brought joy to the underprivileged and old folks recently on 29th January 2011 as part of its on-going 20th Anniversary CSR outreach programme. Prior to the visit, the students made a concerted effort to collect basic necessities like rice, biscuits, mandarin oranges sponsored by well-wishers and KDU staffs members.

At high-rise residential units in Kompleks Jalan Kedah, recipient Soong Ah Nooi expressed gratitude for those who took time off from their study time to bring cheer to the residents. Emotions ran high with compassion and empathy especially for those folks with long-term ailments as students handed out festive goodie-bags to over 12 families around Georgetown.

Ms Joey Phuah, Manager from Student Service Department added that the students have been undertaking the community programmes over the past several years to encourage team building and a chance for students to contribute to the society. "Finding resources to help the needy is a noble act of kindness and we hope students will continue to volunteer in this community project and learn valuable lessons about life from there."

Volunteer Jazz Tan Yee Mei who is pursuing studies in Bachelor of Science in Computer Studies said she looked forward to helping out in charitable programmes.
