KDU Students Explore Career Opportunities at Dell

Students and lecturers from the Information Technology Department of KDU College Penang recently visited Dell on 30th November 2010 as part of the institution's efforts to introduce undergraduates to the real working environment and various departments available at the company's hub at Bayan Lepas, Penang. The visit enabled students from BSc (Hons) in Computing Studies to explore career opportunities and the roles of various departments within Dell.

The session started with a brief speech and video presentation were presented to give an overview on the company. Students were then divided into groups to visit working environment in various departments such as the Global Command Center, Technical Support, Incident Management Site and several others which included respective departments briefing and explaining operations and workload of their department. Students were briefed on respective departments' operations, roles and responsibilities.

According to Business Development Manager and Head of Computing of IT, Ms. Amy Leow, "It is equally important for students to learn the elements like soft skills as the emotional intelligence quotient is important when it comes to securing that career opportunity". In addition, fresh graduates need not worry as they will be provided with ample training during employment.

After a sharing of inspiring speeches on working experiences and career advancement opportunities, students also learned several career related tips including problem solving methods. The event ended with souvenirs exchanged by Amy Leow, Head of Department of the IT Department of KDU College Penang presenting the souvenirs.

Members of the public especially SPM School Leavers who have a minimum of 3As in their SPM trial exam results are encouraged to apply for Teo Soo Pin Scholarship or Bursary Award. PTPTN loans are also available for qualified students.
