SHTCA is once again one of the sponsors for the 5th edition of the Penang Chefs Challenge in March 2012. SHTCA will also be sending a team of students to participate in this event, scheduled to be held at Straits Quay, Penang. According to the President of CAM (Pg), this competition is one of the toughest and most challenging ever created. In the previous competition in year 2010, Singapore (Professional Team) and Thailand (Junior Team) walked away with the top awards in both the categories as mentioned, leaving behind 48 other teams from another 8 countries.

With the support forthcoming from the Ministry of Tourism, Malaysia, earmarking this competition as a National Event, this will definitely garner more participation from teams all over the world. Once regarded as a National Event, there are hopes of more prizes and awards awaiting participants on achieving these coveted honours. As a platform for unearthing potential Chefs from a pool of very enthusiastic Junior Chefs, the Organizing Committee has decided to add in a new challenge section, open only to apprentices from Training Institutes of Higher Learning, Schools, Colleges & Universities, and who are below 24 years old on 1st March 2012. This category is known as the 1st PCC Greenhorn Challenge, and will feature individual events for practical and displayed classes in Pastry, Carving and Hot Cooking. The committee has also incorporated the 2nd MAH Hospitality Challenge, following up on the previous overwhelming response and success. Overall, there will be more than RM25,000 (Twenty Five Thousand) in cash and kind as prizes to be won.
