Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering is the most wide-ranging of the engineering disciplines which encompassing areas such as mechanics (statics and dynamics), energy, fluid mechanics, combustion, design, mechanics of materials, manufacturing processes, systems modeling and simulation, mechatronics, robotics, rapid prototyping, vibration, etc. It is applicable to industry, government, environment and society. Mechanical engineers analyse, test, design, construct, and manage various mechanical systems and are involved in the advancement of industries including automotive, aeronautical, robotics, construction, software, manufacturing, semiconductor and building services industries.

This programme provides a well-established balance between theory and practical. The curriculum consists of a good mix of general courses as well as core Mechanical Engineering courses. The first year of the course provides a foundational grounding in engineering. You’ll then study more advanced principles of mechanics, manufacturing technology, energy systems and engineering design, potentially working on industry projects in the final year.

There are currently shortages of mechanical engineers and, by taking this course, you’ll have plenty of career options, meaning there has never been a better time to enter the industry.

Postgraduate Study
  • This programme prepares you with a solid in foundation in Mechanical Engineering to enable you to pursue a Master’s degree in the areas of Mechanical and Mechatronics in both coursework as well as research mode.
Professional Recognition
  • The delivery of this programme in the UK is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer and partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.
Graduates from this programme may further their study in the master by coursework in Mechanical Engineering in order to register with the Board of Engineers Malaysia to work towards the Professional Engineers status which carry the title of Ir.

The objectives of the programme are to produce graduates who are able to:

The programme learning outcomes are:
  1. Apply basic knowledge and fundamental principles of mathematics, science and engineering to mechanical engineering problems.
  2. Plan and conduct experimental investigations of broadly-defined problem, analyse the results and findings, and hence design mechanical systems to a given specifications.
  3. Apply appropriate techniques, resources, and engineering tools to well‐defined engineering activities, with an awareness of the limitations and taking into account the need for sustainable development in creating solutions to mechanical engineering problems.
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of professional ethics, responsibilities and norms of engineering practices. 
  5. Communicate effectively with the engineering community and function effectively as members or leaders in diverse technical teams.
  6. Solve broadly-defined engineering problems systematically to reach substantiated conclusions, using tools and techniques appropriate to mechanical engineering.
  7. Recognize the need for professional development and to engage in independent and lifelong learning.
