"Our experience being the 1st Hospitality & Culinary Arts school in Northern Malaysia & RM 5 million worth of facilities makes our students stand out above the rest. Get the Swiss edge with us."
The KDU School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (SHTCA) was established in 1991 with the primary focus of being the first education provider in the northern region to provide top class hospitality education to young Malaysians who are keen to enter the country's booming hospitality industry. It ran its first program namely the Diploma in Hotel and Catering Management program in 1991.Since its inception, the school has grown by leaps and bounds to become the first and most renowned hospitality, tourism and culinary arts school in Penang.
The success of the school swiftly brought about a partnership with the IMI University Centre (IMI) from Lucerne, Switzerland (the birth place of the hospitality industry) in 1997 and with it, KDU quickly became the first private college to offer students the opportunity to obtain prestigious Swiss diploma and degree qualifications without having to go abroad. Based on IMI and industry feedback, the school served up popular programs such as the IMI Bachelor of Arts in International Hotel and Tourism Management (3+0), IMI Diploma in International Hotel and Tourism Management, KDU-IMI Diploma in Professional Chef Training and KDU-IMI Certificate in Professional Chef Training program.
The programs were a hit due to the unique features of the programs which provided exposure to students with industry placements in reputable 5-star local or international hotels and restaurants. Thousands of students were also given the option to transfer and to continue their studies in IMI Switzerland for a complete Swiss experience.
Today, the school houses 5-star training facilities such as a hotel suite mock up room, front office mock up area, 'Bon Appétit' fine dining restaurant, six 5-star kitchens including our newly launched Carême (Patisserie) and Escoffier (Butchery) kitchens which is also the only training kitchen in the northern region specializing in art of Butchery.
Its students are currently led by Ms. Cindy Loh and Mr. Prakash together with a team of lecturers and chefs who are dedicated professionals with a passion for quality and excellence. Our team creates enriching and unique learning experiences for the students and this can be testified by the hundreds of chef students who have been led to victory in various culinary competitions by our own Celebrity Chef Darren.
Armed with a great track record in producing industry ready-graduates, the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (SHTCA) is confident that it will continue to produce graduates who are competent and professional in the current hospitality, tourism and culinary arts industry and remain to be the premier hospitality school in the northern region for many years to come.
