For more than 2 decades, KDU Penang has maintained very strong industry linkages, the most recent being a joint industry scholarship offering for KDU Penang's 3+0 Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Creative Computing (UOL) external program.
The MOA signing ceremony was held on 30 July 2013 at KDU Penang's campus between KDU Penang and three of its newly aligned industry partners, namely Brightree Solutions Sdn Bhd, Resonet Sdn Bhd and 3rd Rock Solution Sdn Bhd. According to Ms. Amy Leow Saw Imm, Business Development Manager of the School of Engineering, Science and Technology, the partnership will significantly make KDU Penang's new Goldsmiths University of London 3+0 Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Creative Computing external program more affordable for the public. She further added, "The University of London external programs are extremely popular worldwide as they adhere to quality industry relevant syllabus. With this new joint scholarship partnership with Brightree, Resonet and 3rd Rock, those who can qualify, can expect a 50% reduction in their total tuition fee for the program."
Dr. Chong Beng Keok, CEO & Principal of KDU Penang added, "Our new Creative Computing degree program is an exceptional program which combines software development with artistic creativity. Designed to prepare the next generation's computing graduates to be more equipped with creativity and digital multimedia skills, the addition of this partnership into the UOL degree program will serve to benefit the students greatly with the availability of industry projects and internship opportunities from our partners to further experientially educate our computing and IT students. I must commend and thank Brightree, Resonet and 3rd Rock for their willingness to participate in this joint scholarship partnership as it will help open the door to more talented but financially challenged IT based students who wish to join this unique program."
The industry partners involved in the offering of this unique joint scholarship were equally supportive of this program as it would help produce more talented and creative IT solution providers for the future. Mr. Phuah Ewe Cheng who is the Joint Managing Director of Brightree Solutions Sdn Bhd said, "It is Brightree's aspiration to see the emergence of young talents in the industry honed and groomed to be industry leaders. We look forward to achieving the desired results through the Goldsmiths University of London program." Mr. Patrick Ooi, Director of Resonet Sdn. This new 3+0 Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Creative Computing (UOL) external program prepares students for an active role in the creation of computational system in arts, music, film, digital media and other areas of the software industry that require creative individuals. Designed to prepare one for a career as a technology-led creative in media industries, it will nurture the student's development as not just a technical expert but also as a creative thinker. Graduates of this program can pursue a career in computation, in the media, gaming and other related fields.
