KDU Students Act against World Hunger

"Starve our ego, feed the soul", it was the theme for KDU's inaugural "8 hour Hunger Games" which was held on 26 October 2013 at its campus in Penang.

Organized by the students of KDU's IMI International Hospitality and Tourism Management programme for their final year event management coursework component, the event saw 67 enthusiastic participants stood out against world hunger by fasting for an entire 8 hours except for water consumption.

Apart from the main objective of creating awareness about the alarming issue of World Hunger, the students also raised funds for MERCY Malaysia with a total of RM1,561.60 collected at the end of the event.

Mr. Yamin Oh who is the student organizing chairman of this Hunger Game was thankful for the school's support and contributions by all the sponsors, namely BBQ Plaza, MOG, Eastin Hotel and Deluxcious Heritage Hotel. He was also pleased to have so many participants who are concerned enough about the world's hunger issue to lend their precious Saturday for the event.

Advisor of the Hunger Games event, Ms Aishah Sulaiman who is also a lecturer of KDU Penang's School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts was elated with the students' efforts in making this event a success. She further expounded: "We wish that this event would become one of KDU's hallmark affair which will be carried out yearly. This is an opportunity for youths today to understand their responsibilities in making a difference, to appreciate more of what they have and at the same time to have sense of empathy to those less fortunate."

The event ended with big treat which was called "Break Fast" at KDU's Bon Appetit Restaurant to commemorate the accomplishment of the 8 hour famine in the name of stopping world hunger.
