Dare to be your own boss? Our Business students certainly do and they got exactly that chance when they became real business bosses for 2 days during a Carnival Sales held at KDU Penang's campus recently.
Part of the Entrepreneurship subject coursework module, 95 Year 2 students under the KDU Diploma in Business program had the perfect hands-on opportunity to set up and run their own small businesses in an activity that is designed to boost the students' experiential learning process. Learning the hustle and bustle of business while earning a sizable profit at the same time, students are found to understand the realities of the business world faster through this real life coursework experience.
Mr. Johnson Ng, KDU's Business Lecturer who is in charge of the Entrepreneurship subject explained that this Carnival Sales project aimed to make students understand the concept and models of Entrepreneurship better by getting them to be innovative, proactive and risk-taking in their business. Besides, the activity was also important for them as it also teaches them to not only know how to manage their products and services but also the importance of working closely with the parties who affect their business such as suppliers, team members and customers. "This is a good experience for them. They are given the flexibility to plan and manage their own line of business and are responsible for their own profit and loss. This is to instill the spirit of ownership and expose them to the experience of making hard-earned money during their campus life." Mr. Johnson added.
