|George Town, 16 April 2018 - TWELVE students pursuing diplomas in interior design decided to put their newfound skills to good use by making a preschool cheerier with art.|
They painted numerous murals that incorporated a surrealistic touch in the preschool of Sekolah Kebangsaan Tanjung Tokong, decorating several walls with artful depictions of birds driving cars, trees of many hued leaves and a happy many layered birthday cake with grinning fruits as well.
The students, who are members of a students’ club on the campus called Art Farm, embarked on the effort as a form of charity, said club advisor John Poh, adding that this was done regularly by the club.
“It took us a month to complete the murals. We outlined the drawings first and applied the colours in three stages: mixed, primary and the final colours to create murals that look vibrant,” he said.
He added that the murals were drawn free hand, giving the diploma students a chance to express their creativity as artists.
The dedication of KDU Penang University College to organize activities that foster student creativity is expected to increase manifold when its flagship campus in Metropolis Batu Kawan opens. On the new campus will be The Piazza, a large, open-to-sky, gathering space on the second floor where bazaars, fund-raising events and outdoor performances can be held. It is a combination of turf and hardscape.
In the open will be an outdoor Sculpture Garden which will display sculptural art pieces that are bigger than those in the interior, on top of installations by the students.
