RE-defining the meaning of design

22 Creative Media Design and Interior Design  students exhibited their final year projects over the course of three days from 5th August to 7th August in Queensbay Mall. Entitled “RE-“, the exhibition’s main objective is for the public to see and understand the potential of design in tackling social issues. Nicole Chung, lecturer in charge, said, “Design is no longer just about visual appeal and we believe that designers can play a significant role in improving society”.

“RE-“ is the first ever student exhibition in Penang that focuses on how to redesign solutions for social issues using visual designs and interior designs, with a single purpose of inspiring a better society. One of the major highlights of the exhibition was a fashion show displaying costumes made entirely out of recycled items.

Some of the exhibition titles include, “Reducing the rate of suicide in Penang”, “Encouraging the public to adopt homeless dogs”, “Creating awareness on global warning” and “Promoting healthy lifestyle to the public”.
