Achieve Design Excellence with KDU Penang UC’s Department of Design

George Town, 4 August – Some say the path to creativity is a rocky yet gratifying one. Whether it is visual design, fashion design or built environment design, KDU Penang University College’s (KDU Penang UC) Department of Design (DOD) can offer those who desire to change lives with design and creativity an opportunity to craft an impassioned career.

KDU’s DOD is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to provide industry-standard learning experiences. Through academic partnership with foreign universities such as Dongseo University of Korea, Australia’s Deakin University, University of Hertfordshire from the UK and New Zealand’s Wanganui School of Design, students will also have the chance to a gain global exposure to the world of design.

“We work closely with industry professionals and academics to ensure that our programmes are practical and have relevance with industrial demands. As mentors, we facilitate and guide our students throughout their course of study, further encouraging them to expand their creativity through participation in competitions, exhibitions and internships so that they are ready to hit the ground running after they graduate,” said Syed Fahmi bin Syed Abdul Ra, Academic Head of the DOD.

Last year, KDU Penang UC received a 6-star, rating in the 2014/2015 Malaysian Quality Evaluation System for Private Colleges (MyQUEST). KDU Penang UC was the only private tertiary institution in Penang, and the Northern region, to garner this prestigious college-based rating in the large category.

KDU Penang UC’s DOD offers the following programmes:

Diploma in Interior Design

This programme equips students with hands-on experience in interior design, while building their knowledge in material i.e. leather, steel and glass, design processes, interior decorating and painting techniques and the application of digital software. Upon graduation, students have the option of beginning their design career or proceed to obtain a degree in the UK, Australia or New Zealand to further pursue their design aspiration.

Diploma in 3D Animation & Motion Capture

One the two new programmes to be introduced in DOD, this programme trains students in the 3D Animation Production Line i.e. Pre-Production, Production and Post-Production processes. KDU Penang UC’s teaching faculty is made up of local and international animation specialists whose expert skills are useful in grooming industry-ready talents.

Diploma in Fashion Design and Merchandising

Another new addition to DOD, this programme provides an in-depth study of industry-standard fashion design processes implemented in the fashion industry. Students will acquire knowledge and skills in Fashion Marketing and Merchandising, Visual Display, Fashion Photography, Fashion Styling and Textile and Accessories Design.

Diploma in Creative Media Design

This programme trains students in branding, advertising, typography and illustration aspects of visual design. The syllabus incorporates ample real-world learning opportunities through internship placements, competitions and overseas placement for exceptional students. Graduates can further their undergraduate education in the UK, Australia or New Zealand or pursue a career in Animation Design, Game Design, Interactive Design, Graphic Design or Digital Design.
