George Town, 28 May 2015 – KDU College Penang (KDU College) has recently offered the public a sneak peek of its new Diploma in Fashion Design and Merchandising programme by staging a fashion show themed “Flamboyant Casual Chic” at its campus. This was held in conjunction with KDU College’s Design Day.

Set to begin in August this year, the 2.5-year programme which comes under the KDU College’s Centre of Design Excellence (CODE) will comprise studio-based courses and practical lessons on design, branding and merchandising. Moreover, students will train in state-of-the-art studio facilities such as the iMac Lab, Animation Lab, Inter-CAD Lab as well as Dry and Wet Studios. Students are coached by qualified lecturers who are highly knowledgeable of the fashion design process as well as the business aspects of the apparel industry.

Mr. Abdul Wahid bin Mohd Shariff, a CODE lecturer with close to 30 years of experience in the fashion industry and academia, said, “This study of fashion design takes the student from design concepts and processes to final production, while teaching required business and contextual studies. It provides an integrated approach, combining creativity with applied technical proficiency. This fashion show gives an insight into the quality educational offering at KDU College.”

The “Flamboyant Chic Casual” fashion show was conceptualised, designed and organised by KDU students under the supervision of lecturers. Thirty students spend three weeks to put the show together.During KDU Design Day, numerous activities were organised to unleash creativity through design. In addition to the fashion show, students also participated in a graffiti wall-painting and caricature painting. There was also an exhibition of students’ artwork featuring interior and creative media designs.

Following the success of the “Flamboyant Casual Chic” fashion show, KDU College will be organising another series of extravagant fashion shows in hotels and malls. To stay updated on KDU College and its programmes, please visit KDU College’s website at http://www.kdupg.edu.my/
