George Town, 26 May 2015 – KDU College Penang (KDU College) held its third Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) League in May this year, ending the final matches at its campus from 25th –26th May 2015.

Organised by KDU College’s eSports Club with generous sponsorship from Goliath Mods, Oracle Corporation, Northumbria University, Teddy Tibbers and Redbull Malaysia, MOBA League 2015 attracted participation from 56 contestants from 22 colleges in the Northern region.

Mr. Joshua Thomas, Academic Department Head for IT Department of School of Engineering, Science and Technology, said, “MOBA League is our way of addressing the games development market in Penang, which is growing in popularity. KDU College keeps itself on trend while bringing a real-world experience to KDU students as well as students of other tertiary education institutions here.”

Drawing parallels with two other versions multi-player online battle – League of Legends (LoL) and DOTA 2 – he said, “When LoL was launched in North America six years ago, it altered the landscape of the video game industry. According to the Electronic Entertainment Design and Research’s prediction for the year 2016, LoL will take up 66.3% of the market share, followed by DOTA 2 at 14%. With MOBA, we are taking an active stand to spur growth in this industry.”

The MOBA League fuses action games and real-time strategy games, putting participants’ strategic planning skills to the test. In teams of five to seven players, with at least three KDU student players in every team, participants gained valuable lessons in teamwork as they pit their skills against competing teams in this battle.

Team GrimReaper5 emerged champion of the MOBA League 2015, where members Loh Li Foong (KDU College), Ong Yu Zhou (KDU College), Liew Chan Liang (KDU College), Sannit Eong (KDU College), Ph'ng Chee Lan (Tunku Abdul Rahman University College) and Beh Yin Ze (University Tunku Abdul Rahman) walked away with RM500 in cash, RM100 Steam Wallet and goodies bag from Oracle Corporation each.

This was followed up by first runner-up, Team SinMinTop1 and second runner-up, Team Kappa in Disguise.
