Problem solved! Keat Hwa students shine in team building event

Forty one school students from SMJK Keat Hwa had a blast building towers from straws during a team-building session on 25 May at the School of Arts & Social Sciences, KDU College Penang. Aaron Goh, Head of Centre of Design Excellence held a briefing to the youths as soon as were divided into groups. Wanting to succeed the challenge, students listened eagerly as they took down notes to prepare themselves. In the group, members selected a leader, a scriber and a specialist. Undeterred and full of courage, each group put on their thinking caps to create the best design for the tallest tower.

According to Aaron, "Through sharing of ideas during group discussion, this gives each member the opportunity to contribute. This team-building exercise reflects the real-world working environment whereby the team works together for projects like this".

At the end of the session, each tower was given the endurance test by placing a weight on the tower with the condition it does not collapse, failing which the group will be disqualified. A small token of appreciation were presented to winners during the presentation ceremony. The team- building was a hands-on experience for many as they learned to communicate their ideas and put into action. Students enjoyed some snacks before embarking their journey home but most importantly they cultivated the essentials of working in a team which will put them in good stead in the future.
