KDU’s Celcom partnership continues to groom young developers

Pradheep Narayanaswami, Celcom LEDC Executive addressing the students at KDU College “Successful apps are the ones that invigorate users with value added service”.
The Computing and Information Technology department of KDU College Penang and Celcom Axiata Berhad's collaboration once again reached new heights as the college's new April intake students gathered around the foyer area to pitch their best ideas in developing mobile applications during its Orientation Week.

The League of Extraordinary Developers Challenge (LEDC) Campus Program is currently on its second year to nurture and generate interest among students to bring ideas to reality through games design workshop and training. The program is open to students particularly from Computer Science and Engineering schools or anyone with interest in mobile content industry. Students are able to materialize their ideas through various content applications such as Operating System (OS) such as Blackberry, Android and Symbian.

As mobile apps are taking the world of smartphones by storm, it is possible to make a very decent revenue if one has unique ideas to capture these market. Needless to say, Pradheep Narayanaswami, LEDC Executive quoted that, "Successful apps are the ones that invigorate users with value added service". He named a few apps which are currently the coolest free apps such as Bump, Shazan, Waze and Draw Something.

Stephannie Chin, Manager at LEDC during the talk said that the incentive is to create awareness and encourage more students to participate the Pitch Challenge. The winners of the Pitch Challenge will have their applications developed under the guidance and mentoring of industry experts, with opportunity for revenue sharing contract with Celcom. Towards end of the session, Nicholas Choy Ka Lun bagged first prize followed by Quah Wen Xin for 2nd prize. Claire Lee Yik Mun picked the 3rd prize as the talk drawed to a close.

It is through industry partnerships such as these that the KDU Computing Department thrives in increasing the employability of its graduating students. This is deemed exceptionally important for its students as it exposes them to expectations of the industry early so it motivates the students in constructing R&D ideas in advance to cater for the needs of the future industry when they graduate next time.
